Sent to the Nations

Notes from a missions conference in Texas, a free pamphlet on the Great Commission, and a conversation with Kevin DeYoung on the history of the church.

Dear Reader,

Christ has received all authority in heaven and on earth, and he has sent his church to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:18–20). That commission has been on my mind this week while Ryan Noha and I attend a conference devoted to the work of sending missionaries.

Missionary National Conference

The Lord Who Sends

Ryan and I are in Dallas–Fort Worth for Missionary’s 2026 National Conference, held October 14–16 at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary under the theme “The Lord Who Sends.” The conference has gathered Christians from many nations to be shaped by God’s Word for the work of sending missionaries to unreached peoples. Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Radius International are serving as hosts.

The addresses have been excellent. Kevin DeYoung is among the plenary speakers, and his address is titled “The Son: Sent to Redeem the Nations.” I have enjoyed being here and have been greatly encouraged in the Lord, both by the preaching and by the many friends and ministry partners we have been able to see.

To the Ends of the Earth: The Great Commission and God’s Unfolding Plan for the Nations

In this short pamphlet I trace the Great Commission from God’s promises to Abraham, through Isaiah’s visions of the nations, to its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. The material began as an address at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and it draws on the example of the Scottish missionary William C. Burns, whose labors carried the gospel as far as Manchuria.

We would like give you the PDF and EPUB editions.

Church History for Everyone with Kevin DeYoung

Kevin DeYoung also joins me on Christ the Center this week to discuss Church History for Everyone, Volume 1: The Story of Christianity from the Fall of Jerusalem to the Dawn of the Reformation. We talk about why Christianity is inseparable from history and how the story of the church testifies to Christ’s promise to build and preserve his people by his Word and Spirit.

Kevin also explains how Christians can honor faithful men and women of the past without lapsing into hagiography or reducing their lives to a catalogue of failures. From there we take up monasticism, the preservation of learning and liturgy, the Protestant retrieval of medieval theologians such as Bernard of Clairvaux, and the figures who will appear in the second volume.

I open the episode with an update on the Christ the Center 1000 Summit. Kevin’s book is available from Crossway beginning October 20.

Counseling According to Scripture Jared Poulton joins Camden Bucey to discuss Van Til’s Counseling Movement: A Critical Analysis of Jay Adams and Biblical Counseling. They trace how Cornelius Van Til’s presuppositional apologetics supplied key theological instincts for Jay Adams and the modern biblical counseling movement, including the God-relatedness of every human problem, dependence upon divine revelation, and confidence in Scripture’s sufficiency for pastoral ministry. The conversation...

What Is Christian Unity? Mark Gilbert joins Camden Bucey to examine what Protestants and Roman Catholics mean when they speak of Christian unity. Drawing on Gilbert’s conversion from Roman Catholicism and his work equipping churches to speak with Catholics about Jesus, they contrast a unity grounded in the Spirit’s work through the word with Rome’s institutional claim to mediate grace and gather humanity into one visible communion. The conversation turns to Vatican II and Karl Rahner’s...

Apologetics in the Digital Square We welcome Eli Ayala, host of Revealed Apologetics, to discuss Christian apologetics in the digital public square. Drawing an analogy to the Areopagus of Acts 17, Camden Bucey and Ayala consider YouTube’s remarkable reach, its dangers, the spiritual dimension of apologetics, the union of biblical content and method, current movements in online apologetics, and the pastoral task of guiding young people who encounter theology online. Ayala recounts his path...
