YouTube as a Modern-Day Areopagus

Apologetics in the Digital Square

We welcome Eli Ayala, host of Revealed Apologetics, to discuss Christian apologetics in the digital public square. Drawing an analogy to the Areopagus of Acts 17, Camden Bucey and Ayala consider YouTube’s remarkable reach, its dangers, the spiritual dimension of apologetics, the union of biblical content and method, current movements in online apologetics, and the pastoral task of guiding young people who encounter theology online.

Ayala recounts his path from a Pentecostal upbringing to Reformed theology and presuppositional apologetics, including the decisive influence of the Greg Bahnsen–Gordon Stein debate. He also explains the origins of Revealed Apologetics and reflects on the opportunities and distortions created by algorithmic media. Throughout the conversation, apologetics is presented as a distinctly Christian calling: intellectual, moral, spiritual, ecclesial, prayerful, and governed by gentleness and respect.

Defending Our Hope: An Introduction to Christian Apologetics

Apologetics can sound like a discipline reserved for philosophers, debaters, and seminary graduates. But that is not what the apostle Peter had in mind.

Defending Our Hope shows that apologetics is not about winning arguments. It is, first and foremost, about honoring Christ and being faithful to him.

Camden Bucey walks through the doctrines of God, revelation, the image of God, sin, common grace, and the work of the Holy Spirit, showing how a faithful apologetic method arises naturally from these biblical convictions.

Shaped by years of pastoral ministry and real conversations with ordinary people, this book bridges the gap between theological depth and everyday life.

Defending Our Hope is accompanied by a free video course through Reformed Academy. Suitable for high school students or an adult Sunday School class, enroll for free here.

October 16, 2026 In This Issue Sent to the Nations Notes from a missions conference in Texas, a free pamphlet on the Great Commission, and a conversation with Kevin DeYoung on the history of the church. Dear Reader, Christ has received all authority in heaven and on earth, and he has sent his church to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:18–20). That commission has been on my mind this week while Ryan Noha and I attend a conference devoted to the work of sending missionaries. 01...

Counseling According to Scripture Jared Poulton joins Camden Bucey to discuss Van Til’s Counseling Movement: A Critical Analysis of Jay Adams and Biblical Counseling. They trace how Cornelius Van Til’s presuppositional apologetics supplied key theological instincts for Jay Adams and the modern biblical counseling movement, including the God-relatedness of every human problem, dependence upon divine revelation, and confidence in Scripture’s sufficiency for pastoral ministry. The conversation...

What Is Christian Unity? Mark Gilbert joins Camden Bucey to examine what Protestants and Roman Catholics mean when they speak of Christian unity. Drawing on Gilbert’s conversion from Roman Catholicism and his work equipping churches to speak with Catholics about Jesus, they contrast a unity grounded in the Spirit’s work through the word with Rome’s institutional claim to mediate grace and gather humanity into one visible communion. The conversation turns to Vatican II and Karl Rahner’s...
